Setting records on the pitch, David Beckham became a legend as the most famous footballer in recent English history. After retiring from the pitch, the former No. 7 Manchester United player managed to gain fame in a completely different ”game”. Namely, fashion. Known affectionately as ”Becks”, style icon David Beckham has established himself as the stylish personality who often appears on the red carpet accompanied by his stylish wife, Victoria.

From his hair to his tattoos and impeccable wardrobe details, David Beckham is no doubt an ageless fashion icon. Little wonder his career wasn’t littered with goals only. This fashion icon boasts an exquisite track record in both football and fashion.

Style icon David Beckham came into the fashion game and changed it for good. And kept it that way for decades. If this isn’t the ultimate hat-trick, I don’t know what is!

Although he has always had an eye for style, being married to Victoria certainly refined his look.

His style evolved from wearing baggy jeans, chunky sneakers and boots to custom made suits, sophisticated casual look items and fine accessories.

Nowadays, Becks is often seen sitting in the front row at many fashion shows – including those of Victoria – wearing one of his iconic looks.

Both David and Victoria are highly sought after by designers and figureheads of popular fashion brands. As a couple, or individually, they often appear on the covers of many fashion magazines and have made guest appearances on almost every popular t.v. show.

Besides clothing, something else that Beckham gets a lot of attention with, are his many hairstyles. He is seen as one of the biggest influencers in the hairstyling scene. His ever-changing styles play an important part in his overall look and are often shaped and styled to perfection. And as if this wasn’t enough, he is also highly in demand for fitness gear, fragrance, health, spa and recreational promotions.

Steve McQueen

With football obviously taking up most of his time, his real passion for style came later in life.

One of the biggest style icons he favoured is Steve McQueen. Becks admires his look, his hairstyles and the bikes he rode.

He finds the image the King of Cool has developed looks very natural. It’s just who he is, cool.

Over the years, Beckham developed his own brand identity. Appearing in various styles from hipster, Peaky Blinders, to a tonal look of some sort, he always seemed to strike the right cord to make it work!

One of his best skills is to dress up effortlessly for the right occasion. Although he always stands out, it always looks natural and never too loud or too calculated. Here are the three looks I admired the most.

Leisure Look

One of his best looks that stands out in my mind is where he shows up at the fall/winter 2017 Louis Vuitton event in Paris. Although wearing only 3 garments, he made sure all eyes were on him. This look is all about simplicity and comfort.

The heavy knitted beige turtleneck sweater with cuffs that covered the most part of his hands, gave a luxurious snuggy look. The casual trousers with the subtle micro checked pattern, combined with the white Louis Vuitton sneakers are simply stunning and suit his character perfectly. Finished off with sunglasses, he looks tough with an enhanced confidence.

The black leather biker jacket

David Beckham is probably best known for wearing a black leather biker jacket and for good reason! This signature look is often all black. Whilst keeping the coat unzipped he combines a black t-shirt and jeans with a subtle pair of contrasting brown suede boots. Occasionally, he throws in a white t-shirt which also makes for a winning combi.

The formal look

Taking on a more formal tone, Beckham knows like no other how to carry off a more dressed look.

I am sure at some point you have seen him on the red carpet looking sharp in a dark blue suit a tuxedo. But if there is one that really stands out, it’s this one! It’s one of my favourite looks worn by this icon.

Whilst attending a tennis match at Wimbledon as he often does, he wore a checked blazer in a vibrant mustard colour with a white dress shirt, paired with a blue tie with white stripes with the English shield, and of course the white pocket square.

This look made sure many specators didn’t see a lot of tennis that day, as all eyes where on him. Don’t ask me who won the match.

Don’t use too much colour

A glimpse of Beckham’s style will reveal that this king of fashion knows his colors. Although, he has successfully pulled off a myriad of colors more times than you can get from Hollywood fashion, Beckham never losses sight of his color. Know what works for your skin, hair, and eye color, and pull it off with style.

Another key is to never overdo it with colour as this makes the look too complicated. By keeping colours muted, an air of harmony is created which, in turn, leads to a timeless look that avoids trends. Not only can you wear the outfit today. You’ll be able to wear it in 10 years from now too.

David Beckham knows how to break the rules

The thing Beckham does best is to bend, and sometimes break, the rules. His reputation for setting new boundaries and wearing out of context garments works perfectly. That means experimenting with different colour combinations that you normally wouldn’t have thought of (and probably shouldn’t!!).

Be versatile

One thing he likes to do is to use the element of surprise. By rotating his looks frequently, his style remains interesting and fresh, ensuring all eyes are on him for the right reason.

Use accessories

Often David Beckham walks around with a pair of sunglasses, a headpiece, or a bag of some sort and there is almost always a watch included in his look. Wearing a watch makes you look more manly and this is just how Beckham looks. Another accessory he often wears is a hat, cap or a beanie.

David Beckham likes to keep things simple

There are three main items Beckham often wears which act as the base for his look. These are his black leather coat, a white t-shirt and a pair of black jeans. These are easy to combine and allow maximum versatility. Using them as a starting point, not much effort is required to form a complete look.

Stay hydrated

One thing Becks mentioned is keeping his skin in good condition. He often spoke about the importance of staying well hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using cream to keep the skin moisturized.
