Men’s fashion is a fascinating world, where the old collides with the new. Just like history, fashion is a cycle, and what was once trendy can make a comeback like a phoenix from the ashes. And right now, retro accessories are making a comeback.

Accessories, and in particular retro accessories, can effortlessly enhance your appearance and add a touch of sophistication. Fedoras, tie bars, and pocket squares are simple yet effective ways to elevate your style from good to great.

Fedoras

The fedora was a staple of men’s fashion in the 1920s and 1930s, and it’s back in style again. Fedoras come in a variety of materials, including wool, cashmere, rabbit, or beaver felt, which can also be combined with mink or chinchilla, and occasionally with vicuña, guanaco, cervelt, or mohair.

Additionally, fedoras can be crafted from other materials such as straw, cotton, waxed or oiled cotton, hemp, linen, or leather.

This classic hat can be worn with a suit for a formal look or opt for a more laid-back feel by pairing it with a t-shirt and jeans.

Either way, it’s sure to add a touch of retro style to any outfit. When accessorizing with a fedora be sure to keep your hair simple and avoid heavy styling products.

Suspenders

Suspenders were popular in the 1940s and 1950s, and they’re making a comeback in men’s fashion. Suspenders are the perfect accessory for those looking to add an extra dimension of flair to their look and are a great alternative to a belt, and can add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

A nice pair of button-on suspenders

While they may have been a symbol of nerdy style in the past, suspenders are now seen as fashionable and classic.

To simplify, suspender attachments can be categorized into three main types: clip-on suspenders that attach directly to pants, button-on suspenders that fasten to buttons sewn onto pants, and belt-clip suspenders that clip onto a belt.

For the most elegant appearance, it’s recommended to choose button-on suspenders that are attached to sewn-on buttons on pants.

Pocket Squares

Pocket squares were popular in the 1960s, and they’re back in style again. A pocket square can add a pop of color to a suit or blazer and show off your personal style.

To wear a pocket square, choose a color that complements your outfit and fold it in a way that adds interest without being too fussy.

Make sure however not to have the pocket square be in the exact same pattern, fabric and colour as your tie, as it will look like you bought it as a set.

Pocket squares are available in a wide range of colors, prints, and fabrics, including silk, cotton, wool, and cashmere. The choice of fabric largely depends on the season, with silk and cotton being popular choices for summer and wool and cashmere being preferred for winter.

Bracelets

Men’s bracelets have a long and rich history, dating back centuries. Back in the 1950s and 60s, ID bracelets were very common, and not just for soldiers and medical professionals. Teenagers across America were sporting these wrist accessories, and soon enough, even the grown-ups were getting in on the action.

But like many fads, the ID bracelet craze eventually faded away by the early 1970s. It wasn’t until the 1990s that men’s bracelets began to make a comeback. From leather bands to braided cords, wooden beads to metal chains and cuffs, there’s a bracelet style for every man out there.

Fashion icons and film stars alike are flexing their wrist-game these days, showing off their favourite bracelets alongside their trusty watches. Leather band bracelets give off a rugged, masculine vibe, while fabric woven bracelets add a touch of bohemian flair. Bead bracelets can be as simple or intricate as you like, with natural stones adding an extra touch of meaning. And if you want to go bold, a chunky metal chain or cuff will definitely make a statement.

Cufflinks

Cufflinks have been around for centuries and were a popular accessory for men in the past. They have since fallen out of favor in more casual settings, but in recent years, they have seen a resurgence in popularity as men have started to embrace a more formal and polished look.

Cufflinks come in a wide range of varieties, with variations in materials, shapes, colors, and sizes. However, the two most commonly used types of cufflinks are the “bullet back” and “fixed backing” or “stud” cufflinks.

The most common type of cufflinks is called “bullet back” cufflinks, also known as toggle or whale back cufflinks. These cufflinks have a straight post with a small, bullet-shaped closure that flips vertically to secure the cufflink in place.

Another popular type of cufflink is the “fixed backing” or “stud” cufflink, which consists of a small, decorative front piece that is permanently attached to a post or stud that goes through the buttonhole. The back of the stud is then secured with a small screw-on disc or other closure mechanisms.

Conclusion

In conclusion, retro accessories are making a comeback in men’s fashion, and they are a great way to add a touch of vintage style to any outfit. From fedoras to cufflinks, these throwback accessories can add a pop of sophistication to your wardrobe. While these accessories were popular in the past, they have been given a modern twist to fit into today’s fashion. So, if you’re looking to elevate your style and add a touch of old-school charm to your wardrobe, don’t be afraid to try out these retro accessories and show off your fashion sophistication.
